Buying vouchers for May holidays of Russians warn of increased activity of scammers

During the May holidays, VTB warns about the seasonal growth of fraud cases associated with purchases of tourist trips or fake tickets.

Attackers use situational phishing and create fake sites of airlines and ticket markets, promising profitable offers.

With the approach of the May holidays, many Russians begin to plan their trips. Fraudsters use the tourist season, creating fake sites of famous airlines and ticket markets. They actively advertise them on the Internet, luring users with offers about “profitable” prices for flights and tours.

Trusting customers are crossing the links, enter their personal data and bank cards information to make a purchase. Attackers receive payment, and even send confirmation of the purchase. Only at the airport, the victims discover that their tickets are invalid.

What should alert:

• Low prices for a ticket or tourist ticket.
• Unofficial sources, for example, links from letters or messages from messengers.
• The urgency of the sentence: scammers often create artificial pressure, offering “last tickets” or “limited proposals” in order to make the victim decide quickly.

“Such schemes of deception have been operating for several years, but on the eve of the tourist season, they become more“ relevant ”with scammers. Scammers offer Russians a plane, hotel or tours with good discounts on behalf of the carrier. Unfortunately, the victims will learn about deception only at the airport, when they find out on registration that their tickets do not exist.
