Ilie Lemnaru, the president of Unirea Slobozia, spoke about the team's situation after the team was relegated to the second echelon at the end of the recently concluded Super League season.
The official from Unirea Slobozia stated that the objective is to return to the elite of Romanian football, but on the same model that he succeeded in promoting: a long-term project with young players.
Ilie Lemnaru said that the team will go through a restructuring, especially since the Ialomi team will have a maximum of 6 players left from the current team. The official from Unirea Slobozia said that they would have a budget of 1.5 million euros and also revealed the salary ceiling: a maximum of 2,500 euros.
Ilie Lemnaru said what is next for Unirea Slobozia in League 2: “It would be a total budget of approximately 1,500,000 euros. We are not giving up the fight”
“We will play in League 2, we will do the same as we did when we were in League 2. We will look to bring in players, but on salaries like we had then. There will be salaries on average of 2,000 euros, maximum 2,500.
It can be 1,700 euros, some 1,000 euros. That's it, that's League 2, we have to accept that. And when I promoted, I promoted with the same salaries, but the amount of money was different. Prices, taxes and transport have increased.
We will take players free of contract. We will be looking to bring in players who want to progresswho want to perform, let's take them as we built the team in 2019 and promoted in 2024, so we want to do the same this time. It can be a mix of young and experienced players. There are players who accept the wages we have.
Only those who want to fit into our salary scale will stay with us. We cannot offer salaries of 4-5,000 euros. We also had salaries of 3,000 euros in League 1, 2,000 euros. Those who want to stay will stay, if they find something else there is no problem”, said Ilie Lemnaru, according to sport.ro.
We have to look for players in all positions. Let's say we have between four and six of last season's squad left. We don't know at the moment either. There aren't that many who want to accept the salary we can give. But if they find something else, that's right.
I say it's better to build a team that will make claims in two, three years. It is very difficult to promote immediately. It may happen that you enter the play-offs. You cannot enforce promotion from the first year. There are teams that have budgets of League 1. Voluntari promoted with a budget of League 1, Sepsi had a budget of 12 million euros and promoted in League 1. There are teams that really invest.
At this moment, we are at the moment of 2023 as a budget. We are trying to collect between 500 and 600,000 euros from sponsors, but even there the debts will be paid off. After which 1,000,000 euros are added which will come from the County Council. It would be a total budget of approximately 1,500,000 euros. We are not giving up the fight and will try to make a competitive batch!
