Russians have become more careful with smartphones and other digital devices.

According to sales data in the combined retail network of MegaFon and Yota, the volume of mobile phone insurance in units in the second half of 2025 increased by 75% compared to the first half of the year. Experts note a pronounced seasonality: the peak demand for gadget insurance traditionally occurs in the fall – the period of equipment renewal and the beginning of the business season.

Most often, customers insure smartphones from the brands Samsung, Realme and Huawei. However, in the regions of Siberia the picture is different: here the leaders in the most popular insured devices are products from the Apple and Samsung brands.

The most expensive insured smartphone in the operator’s retail network in 2025 was the Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max, the price of which was 239 thousand rubles. It is followed by Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 for 220 thousand rubles and Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max for 215 thousand rubles. In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the most expensive insured smartphone was the Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max, its price was more than 155 thousand rubles. The policy was issued in Norilsk.

In addition to smartphones, Russians take out insurance policies for headphones, smart watches and portable speakers, but it is mobile phones that form the basis of the segment – they account for 96% of all policies issued. The most unusual insurance item last year was an Apple stylus for a graphics tablet.

The maximum increase in demand for the service was recorded in September – in this month the volume of policies issued was 2.2 times higher than the annual average. Experts attribute this to the purchase of smartphones for children at the beginning of the school year, when insurance becomes part of the standard package along with a case or an additional charger. The demand for screen protection is also growing rapidly: it has increased fivefold over the year.

“Today, a smartphone is the main digital tool that a person uses every day. Growing interest in device protection shows that users have become more conscious of gadgets and the possible costs of their breakdown or loss. At the same time, device insurance is increasingly perceived as a logical continuation of the purchase, and not as an additional option,” said Vadim Zimin, director of the department for strategy and sales development at MegaFon.

Among Siberians, mobile equipment insurance is most often purchased by residents of the Altai and Krasnoyarsk territories, Kemerovo and Novosibirsk regions, and Tuva. But residents of the Altai Republic are least worried about protecting their gadgets.

In addition to insuring gadgets, clients also purchase policies aimed at protecting life, health and financial risks. The greatest interest in such products is recorded in Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as in the Oryol, Sverdlovsk and Novosibirsk regions. Krasnoyarsk residents occupy 18th place in the all-Russian ranking – the region accounts for 1% of all purchased policies. The surge in demand occurred in April – before the start of the holiday season, the volume of insurance increased by 15% compared to the average monthly level.
