Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław talked by phone with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Aragchi. Sikorski announced on the X platform after this conversation that the protection of civilians, the pursuit of peace in the region and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz are priority issues for Poland.

Sikorski, who is currently visiting Algeria, thanked the head of Iranian diplomacy for the “good conversation”. “Protecting civilians, striving for peace in the region and opening the Strait of Hormuz are priority issues for Poland. Our diplomacy is working – despite the difficult situation, our embassy in Tehran remains open,” emphasized the head of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, a key oil transport route to Asia, has been virtually suspended since the US and Israel launched airstrikes on targets in Iran on February 28.
The war in the Middle East began on February 28 with Israeli and US airstrikes on Iran. Tehran responded with attacks on both Israel and Arab states in the Persian Gulf region, including US military bases and civilian facilities there, such as airports and petrochemical installations. Iran has also blocked free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, thereby halting oil exports from the Middle East.
There has been a truce in the war since April 8, which was extended last week by US President Donald Trump. White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt stressed that Trump had not set an end date for the ceasefire. (PAP)
