“Andrzej, rockets are flying, the earth is shaking. Kyiv is being bombed. The war has begun.”

The President of Poland in 2015-2025, Andrzej Duda, called the most difficult moment during his entire presidency the day of the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. He expressed this in an interview with the founder of the GORDON publication, Dmitry Gordon.

“I will never forget my conversations with President Vladimir Zelensky. I will never forget how he told me that he would not leave Kyiv. I still believe that this was of great importance for the successful defense of Ukraine: that the morale among the defenders of Ukraine was supported by the president. That he did not run away, that he was not afraid, that he too was ready to give his life. After all, it is easy to imagine what would have happened if the Russians had broken into Kyiv. They wanted to capture Zelensky,” Duda noted.

Answering the question of what his feelings were when Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, the ex-president of Poland noted: “President Volodymyr Zelensky actually called me in the morning. First the Polish services called me, and then President Zelensky called and told me: “Andrzej, we are under attack. Rockets are flying and we are being bombed. Explosions are heard and the ground shakes. They are bombing in Kyiv, they are bombing us, they are bombing Ukraine. The war has begun.” This is one of the most difficult moments in these 10 years of mine. [на посту президента]”.
