Trump, after the meeting with King Charles in the Oval Office: “He is a fantastic person” / The reason why the discussion took place without cameras

Donald Trump said Tuesday's Oval Office meeting with King Charles was “very good” and described the monarch as “a fantastic person,” according to The Guardian.

The discussion, held without cameras, avoided the tense situations other foreign leaders have experienced during public meetings with the US president and other US administration officials.

According to information previously published by The Guardian, British officials insisted that the meeting between the king and Trump take place without the press present, to avoid a repeat of the scenes in which the American leader harshly criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in front of journalists from around the world.

“It was a very good meeting,” Trump told reporters after the discussion. “He's a fantastic person. They're incredible people and it's a real honor.”

King Charles III and Queen Camilla arrived in the United States on Monday for a four-day state visit marking the historic ties between the two nations.

The unprecedented welcome ceremony, marked by much pomp, included a military parade, cannon fire and the flyover of military planes, with important members of Trump's cabinet also participating in the event.

Although there were fears that the US president could make unexpected exits and put the British monarch in an embarrassing situation, Trump limited himself to the prepared message in his brief statements. He praised the shared history of the US and Britain and stated that “Americans have no closer friends than the British”.
