In 1928-1933. A relatively large number of Jewish settlers arrived, but more than half of the settlers who arrived left the area. In total, in the first six years of colonization, 19,635 Jews arrived and 11,450 left, leaving only 8,185 people. Lack of preparation for receiving migrants, interruptions in the supply of essential goods and products, lack of housing, harsh climatic conditions, severe floods and other reasons led to the fact that many migrants returned back. The bravest ones became the first builders of new villages – Valdheim, Amurzet and Birofeld.
