Portugal will support NATO's eastern flank. Soldier training is underway

Preparations for the planned mission in Eastern Europe include exercises codenamed Carpathos Start, Sagitario and Argos. “The integrated implementation of these training activities strengthens the combat readiness and support of operational units,” said the command of the Portuguese army.
The exercises at the Santa Margarita training ground, which end on Tuesday, are intended, among others, to: preparing approximately 200 Portuguese soldiers to undertake a military mission within NATO in Romania. Their departure is scheduled for this summer.
“The exercises include tactical operations”
“The various exercises carried out at the training ground include tactical operations using live ammunition (…), operation of unmanned aerial systems, training in the use of army communications equipment, and reconnaissance and intelligence missions,” the Portuguese command said.
It specified that the deployment of Portuguese soldiers preparing to leave “is part of strengthening the allied presence in an area considered strategic at a time when NATO is focusing on deterrence and operational readiness along Europe's eastern border.”
