At the time of the incident, the man, George Clifton, aged 45, punched his partner and tried to strangle her. The man stabbed her 31 times when she tried to end their 10-year relationship.
The woman, Annabel Rook, aged 46, mother of two, was found dead by the police on June 17, 2025, in their home in north London, writes the BBC.
He denied the crime
The man admitted manslaughter and arson but denied murder, claiming he lost control. He was convicted of murder after a trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court, the source added.
During the trial there was evidence which showed that George was an aggressive partner. He was prone to fits of rage for trivial reasons.
Damages in excess of £400,000
The damage caused by the explosion was approximately £400,000.
“An overwhelming image of your anger, rage and volatility has emerged,” the judge said, adding that the man had a “pronounced temperament”.
A prosecutor suggested during the trial that the explosion was an attempt by the man to destroy evidence of the crime.
The same source also shows that the man was under the influence of alcohol at the time of killing his partner.
The court also heard that before the murder, Anabell had told George that they should break up and that he should move out of their home, which she owned.
But she had planned to give her partner £50,000 to find a new home and hoped they would continue to holiday together in the future.
George, who had been drinking wine on the night of the murder, had learned that he was not legally entitled to any part of the property and started the fight. He lost his temper and killed Annabel.
