A pensioner from Norilsk gave 13 million rubles to scammers

April 25 12:51

In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, a pensioner gave 13 million rubles to cyber fraudsters, the prosecutor’s office said.

At the end of March, a 66-year-old Norilsk resident received a message in the MAX messenger from allegedly his former deputy director. The man was warned that he would soon receive a call about an important matter and needed to communicate with the person.

“After a while, the man received a call from a certain “FSB officer,” who announced an attempt to transfer 700 thousand rubles to a foreign citizen from a pensioner’s account, after which he began to accuse him of supporting an unfriendly state. Then a false employee of the Central Bank joined the conversation, reporting that the account was blocked and the need to withdraw all savings in cash to place them in a “safe” account,” the press service said.

The pensioner submitted an application to the bank to withdraw 13 million rubles. When asked by employees why he needed such a sum, the man told a legend prepared by the scammers: he buys an apartment for cash at a discount. Representatives of the bank called the police to talk with the pensioner, but he insisted on his own and received the desired amount at the cash desk.

On the instructions of the “curator”, he packed the money in black bags, wrapped it with yellow tape and handed it over to the “courier”, receiving in return a black folder with false documents.

“I was constantly plagued by doubts, but I tried to extinguish them. I was sure that I was communicating with real employees, since I looked at the numbers on the Internet from which they called me, and they also sent me documents with stamps,” the victim explained.

A criminal case was opened for fraud (Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
