On November 19, information appeared on Gigi’s Instagram page that the singer was urgently operated on and is in serious but stable condition. The reasons for the surgery were not reported at that time.
Due to health problems, all the artist’s concerts planned until the end of January 2026 were cancelled, including a performance at the Kiev Sports Palace, which was supposed to take place on November 29.
Gigi's concert director Petr Dobromilsky announced on the same day that the singer is in one of the hospitals in Lviv under 24-hour medical supervision. According to the director, Giga was conscious at that time, and there were children next to him.
Rumors and facts about amputation
For almost three weeks, none of the artist’s representatives communicated with either the press or his fans, thereby provoking rumors about the artist’s serious health problems.
Ukrainian blogger Bogdan Bespalov was one of the first to speak publicly about this. On December 8, he said that Giga’s leg was amputated.
“Stepan Giga was hospitalized due to an illness – relatively speaking, a viral cold, but it gave significant complications due to the singer’s diabetes. Doctors I had to amputate my legto save the artist's life. Now his condition is very difficult. I won’t disclose the details, because the fight for his life continues,” Bespalov said.
According to the blogger, all the details were told to him by people from the artist’s circle.
Bespalov’s words were confirmed by Ukrainian journalist Vitaly Glagola, who spoke with people from his close circle Gigi.
“Giga’s leg was amputated after a second knee operation. Sources close to the artist’s family told me this. According to them, surgical intervention was a forced step,” the journalist shared the details.
He added that after the first surgical intervention, serious complications arose.
“Against the background of stress, the body sharply increased its sugar level, which provoked poor circulation in the lower limb. This, according to sources, was the reason for the amputation, as doctors fought to save the patient’s life,” added Glagola. “He is now in a coma.”
Gigi's condition is assessed as very serious.
Glagola added that the decision to amputate the leg was made in conditions when there were no other ways to stop dangerous processes.
What Gigi representatives say
The artist’s press manager, in a conversation with Channel 24 journalists, neither confirmed nor denied Bespalov’s and Glagoly’s statements about amputation. She also called on people to “believe less in rumors.”
“If there is new information, we will immediately inform you publicly,” said the artist’s assistant.
