Druzhba is missing from the transit schedule
Since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Russia has increasingly treated energy exports as an instrument of political pressure against European countries. Stopping the transmission of Kazakh oil would be another example of such a strategy.
A high-ranking representative of the Kazakh government said that Moscow's decision, planned for next month, is primarily intended to put pressure on the European Union, and in particular on Germany, which is one of the largest arms suppliers to Ukraine. — Every month, Russia provides Kazakhstan with a schedule for oil transit through its territory. The Druzhba pipeline was not included in the schedule for May — said the official, adding that this is not a serious problem for Kazakhstan itself because export volumes via this route are relatively small.
Germany gets oil from Kazakhstan
The PCK refinery, whose operations were taken over by the German state after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, will largely rely on supplies of Kazakh crude oil from 2022.
Kazakhstan's Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov confirmed in a conversation with journalists during the forum in Astana that Russia had not included the volumes transmitted via the Druzhba pipeline in the monthly delivery schedule. He also noted that Astana has not yet received any formal notification on this matter from the Kremlin.
