On Monday morning, employees of the Louvre in Paris voted to resume the strike that the museum staff conducted in December last year. The Louvre is partially open on this day. Major masterpieces are available, including the Mona Lisa and the Nike of Samothrace sculpture.

At a meeting called by trade unions on Monday morning, about 350 people supported the strike. “The fight continues in 2026,” the CGT trade union headquarters announced on Instagram.
The museum did not open at the usual time, i.e. at 9, but with a three-hour delay.
In a separate statement, the museum authorities announced that in 2025, the Louvre was visited by 9 million people – compared to 8.7 million a year earlier. Last year, 27 percent visitors were from France, and 73 percent – tourists from abroad.
On December 8, 2025, Louvre employees opted for strike action and negotiations began with the Ministry of Culture, which was to respond to the demands presented by the trade unions. However, the ministry's proposals were considered insufficient and on December 15, an employee strike began. It lasted for three days and caused disruptions in the facility's operation. It was suspended until the beginning of January this year. due to the holiday season.
The strikers' main demand is to increase the number of museum staff. The situation at the Louvre, especially the security of its collections, came into focus after a daring break-in in October 2025, when the crown jewels of French rulers were stolen.
