On Wednesday, the environment ministers of the EU countries agreed to set a climate target for 2040 – by then, greenhouse gas emissions for the EU are to be reduced by 90%. compared to 1990. Moreover, Poland and other opponents of the ETS2 system managed to delay its entry into force by a year.

The vote of ministers does not end the legislative process. The final shape of the provisions of the amended EU climate law will be adopted after negotiations between the EU Council, representing the Member States, and the European Parliament.
The new goal will complement the current EU climate law, according to which in 2030 the Community will reduce emissions by 55% and in 2050 it will become climate neutral (all emissions are to be balanced by absorption).
We should block the entry into force of ETS2. Otherwise, the costs for families will be drastic
We should block the entry into force of ETS2 or try to delay it to investigate the matter thoroughly, said Prof. in an interview with PAP. Zbigniew Krysiak from SGH. He added that the entry into force of ETS2 will result in each household paying an average of PLN 600 per month to the costs of heat and energy.
