Barely acquitted yesterday in a criminal case, the mayor of Iași came to DNA again today

The mayor of Iași, Mihai Chirica, arrived on Wednesday in front of DNA prosecutors to give statements in a file in which they are investigating acts of corruption, writes Ziarul de Iași.
According to the quoted source, Chirica gives statements in the files opened by DNA prosecutors in 2024, regarding the purchase of coal from 2022 and the management of state reserves of fuel oil from CET Holboca.
Acquitted on Tuesday in another case
The Iași Court on Tuesday acquitted Mayor Chirica in the case in which he was accused by the DNA of allowing a businessman to build a building with nine floors, although the authorization was issued for two. The judges found that there was not enough evidence in the case, as Hotnews wrote.
Mihai Chirica, who is in his third term as mayor of Iași, was sent to court in this case, by DNA Iași, in July 2022, seven months after the management of the territorial department was taken over by the prosecutor Cristina Chiriac, recently appointed prosecutor general of Romania. It was the first file “with media impact” during Cristina Chiriac's term as head of DNA Iași.
- In the file opened following the journalistic investigation of the local publication ReporterIs, together with the mayor Chirica, the former deputy mayor of the municipality, Gabriel Harabagiu, the former chief architect of the mayor's office, Anca Nora Brânduşescu, a registrar from the Cadastre Office, Marian Popa, the businessman Tudor Cheșcu and the Flux company (the beneficiary of the building) were sent to court.
