Siberian Generating Company received the KonTEKst National Award for its ESG project

Siberian Generating Company was awarded the KonTEKst National Prize in the category “Best Communication Project for ESG” for the implementation of an important project to provide information support for the introduction of ash and slag materials (ash and slag materials) into economic circulation.

Two other projects of the company – a series of cultural and educational excursions “Krasnoyarsk Lights” and a book for the anniversary of the Great Victory “80 Moments of War” – were awarded in the category “Best Image Projects”.

Evaluating the project “Ashes and slags for economic use,” the competition jury especially noted that SGK has taken responsibility for solving a long-standing environmental problem and is successfully working on it. After the collapse of the USSR, the systematic approach to the use of fly ash and slag in the production of construction mixtures, in agriculture and in the reclamation of quarries was interrupted, which led to an increase in the volume of ash storage facilities.

SGK was the first among Russian energy companies to develop a technology for the production of ash and steel and, together with the Russian Ministry of Energy, began to popularize these materials as valuable recyclable materials that can reduce costs and increase the efficiency of reclamation, the production of building materials and the development of the road network. As a result, the volume of ash utilization has increased from several tens of thousands to 2.8 million tons per year and continues to grow dynamically.

“We are proud that our commitment to environmental responsibility and efficient use of resources has been highly recognized. This award confirms that we are on the right path and inspires us to continue our work to transform environmental challenges into opportunities for sustainable development,” said Petr Sankov, Director for Sales of Ash and Slag Materials at SGC.

The competition experts also noted SGC projects aimed at strengthening the company’s reputation and educating the population. Thus, a series of unique excursions “Krasnoyarsk Lights” was awarded, which offer citizens and guests of Krasnoyarsk to get acquainted with the development of urban warmth and light. The event begins with a presentation of historical sites and significant buildings related to energy. And the excursion participants study energy production in modern conditions within the walls of the Energy Museum of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Here, in addition to interactive exhibits, guests are shown a scientific show that leaves no one indifferent. Developing the project, SGK released a series of sketches based on facts from the history of energy and is now planning their animation.

No less significant is the book “80 Moments of War,” published in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. This is a collection of stories about front-line energy workers who fought for freedom and worked in the rear during the war, and then developed the energy industry in the Krasnoyarsk Territory and Khakassia. Initially, it was planned to collect 80 stories, but in the process of work, the authors revealed interesting facts about almost 500 employees of local thermal power plants and state district power plants, which made it possible to create a more voluminous publication and better cover the contribution of power engineers to the victory and development of the industry after the war. The living stories of participants in great events did not leave participants in the book presentations indifferent. About 300 people gathered at different venues in the Krasnoyarsk Territory and Khakassia.

SGK projects were also previously awarded the national award “KonTEKst”. In 2024, its laureate was the comprehensive project of the SGC “Preparing Cities for Winter.” The KonTEKst award has been awarded since 2009 and brings together communications specialists, experts and journalists from all sectors of the fuel and energy complex, power engineering and industry.
