Almost 80 percent Cubans living in the USA support the possible intervention of American troops in Cuba in order to overthrow the communist regime – according to a survey commissioned by the American daily “Miami Herald”, the results of which were published on Saturday.

According to the study, the highest percentage of people supporting the military intervention of US troops to overthrow the regime in Havana, at 88 percent, are Cuban citizens who left the island after 2000. 78 percent survey participants rejected the possibility of an agreement between the administration of US President Donald Trump and the current authorities in Havana. More than three-quarters of the survey participants, 76 percent, declared their willingness to stay in the United States even though they support political change in Cuba.
In recent days, Trump has announced the possibility of an imminent military intervention by American troops on the island. On Friday, he said the U.S. military could “take military action” against the regime in Havana. Tensions between Washington and Havana increased after U.S. troops captured Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro, who was a close ally of the regime in Havana, on January 3. His detention and placement in American custody meant the end of Venezuelan oil supplies to Cuba, which in turn led to serious fuel and electricity shortages on the island.
Representatives of the authorities of Brazil, Spain and Mexico issued a joint statement on Saturday, demanding, among other things, respect Cuba's sovereignty and assure that they will continue to provide assistance to the island's inhabitants. (PAP)
