Norway is getting ready for the World Cup. Oslo authorities want to open bars 24 hours a day

Under the new proposals, bars and pubs not only in the city center but also outside the city center will be able to apply for permission to sell alcohol throughout the night during the World Cup.
The condition is regular broadcasting of sporting events. This means that the so-called soccer pubs across Oslo will have the chance to operate 24 hours a day during the tournament, which will take place in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The current regulations on the sale of alcohol in Norway are among the most stringent in Europe. Alcohol with a content above 4.7%. can be purchased in stores only until 18.00, and weaker drinks until 18.00 8 p.m. In catering establishments, alcoholic beverages are served until max. 3.00 a.m.
Social controversy surrounding changes in Oslo
However, the idea of the Oslo authorities arouses considerable emotions among Norwegians. A survey conducted by the daily “Aftenposten” at the end of March shows that almost half of the country's inhabitants are against the sale of alcohol at night during the World Cup.

According to the study, 49 percent respondents do not support this initiative, while 42 percent is its supporters. The city authorities emphasize that the final decision will be made by the city council at the end of April.
Schedule of the Norwegian team at the World Cup
The Norwegian national team returns to the FIFA World Cup after a 28-year break. It will play its first match against Iraq, which last played at the World Cup 40 years ago in Mexico. The match will take place on June 17 at midnight in Oslo time, and the arena will be the stadium in Boston.
