Municipalities are starting waste inspections on properties. The official may take a photo

Local governments announce dates for inspections of bio-waste management on properties. Home composters, which offer discounts on waste disposal fees, are under the microscope of officials. If bio-waste containers are not used properly (e.g. they contain prohibited elements), the owner may lose the relief. This could mean a much higher fee on an annual basis. The amount of the relief depends on the decision of a specific commune, but usually ranges from several to several PLN per month for a person living in a given property.

Inspections of composters are starting in these communes
As “Fakt” checked, inspection dates have already been announced for some municipalities. For example, the mayor of the commune of Sawin (Lublin Voivodeship) announced that inspections will be carried out in the second and third quarter of 2026. Officials will check properties in Sawin, as well as in the towns of Działczyce Małe, Wieluce Duże and Wieluce Kolonia.
In turn, in the Wądroże Wielkie commune (Lower Silesian Voivodeship), inspections started on Thursday, April 16 and will last until June. On the website of the commune office you can check the schedule for residents of Bielany, Budziszów Mały, Budziszów Wielki, Gądków, Granowice and Jenków. The commune warns that the lack of a composter, incorrect use or obstruction of inspection may result in loss of the fee discount.
As “Fakt” found out, in the Pogorzela commune (Greater Poland Voivodeship), composters will be checked in the towns of Kaczagórka and Małgów. The action is scheduled for April 21-23.

These types of inspections are carried out throughout Poland. One of the reasons why they have already become a standard is the fact that some property owners abuse the right to discounts for waste collection. Hence, regular checking whether the collection of bio-waste in the composter is not done only “on paper”.
During the inspection, the official may take photographic documentation of waste composting. It is worth remembering that you cannot put things such as meat and bones, diseased plants, weeds with seeds, pet feces or plastic/metal/glass waste into the composter.
