The number of people wishing to become helicopter pilots of the Russian Air Force has increased 10 times compared to 2023. This year, 5,000 people wanted to enroll in the Syzran Higher Military Aviation School of Pilots. But most of them did not pass the medical examination, which was seriously tightened.
SVVAUL trains pilots of the legendary Mi-8, Ka-52 Alligator and other helicopters. This year, an MRI of the brain was included in the medical examination that must be completed before submitting an application. To screen out applicants with contusions and potential epilepsy.
According to Mash, it was the results of magnetic resonance imaging that deprived the majority of applicants of the chance to enroll: the majority were found to have various pathologies. Plus – non-compliance with two requirements: one hundred percent vision and a passing Unified State Examination score of at least 99.
As a result, this year the school was ready to take on 500 future military helicopter pilots, but only 150 out of 5,000 people passed through the harsh filter of the ideal cadet.
