According to doctors, the woman came to them complaining of pain and congestion in her ear.
As otolaryngologist Andriana Melnik explained, this happens much more often than it seems, in particular in the summer season, when the risk of insects getting into the ear canal increases.
In such cases, you should not try to get a foreign object yourself, Melnik noted, because this can lead to injury to the ear canal or damage to the eardrum. She also does not recommend putting any liquids into the ear, as this may cause the insect to move more and make it more difficult to remove. Instead, the doctor advised to immediately seek medical help – a specialist will safely remove the foreign body and check the condition of the ear for possible damage.
Separately, the doctor recalled that earwax performs a protective function, trapping dust, microorganisms and small foreign bodies.
“By removing wax completely, you deprive the ear of a natural barrier. Even in the case of this patient, the spider was able to penetrate quite deeply – almost to the eardrum,” Melnik emphasized.
She recommended undergoing a preventive examination by an otolaryngologist at least once a year to promptly identify possible hearing problems.
