Donald Trump continues the dispute with Pope Leo: “Someone tell him, please, that this is absolutely unacceptable”

US President Donald Trump, whose war and immigration policies have been condemned by Pope Leo, continued his wave of criticism against the leader of the Catholic Church, which counts 1.4 billion believersreports Reuters.

“Can someone tell Pope Leo that Iran has killed at least 42,000 innocent, completely unarmed protesters in the last two months and that it is completely unacceptable for Iran to have a nuclear bomb,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post Tuesday night.

Trump's new attacks come after Pope Leo warned on Tuesday of the risk of democracies slipping into a “tyranny of the majority”.

Trump, against the Pope

Trump began attacking the pope on Sunday, calling him “weak on crime” and “terrible on foreign policy,” repeating his criticisms several times. He said the pope “does not understand and should not talk about the war, because he has no idea what is going on,” in an interview with the Italian publication Corriere della Sera on Tuesday.

Pope Leo, a native of Chicago, criticized Trump's decision to launch war against Iran, saying God does not listen to the prayers of those who start wars and have “bloody hands”. The pope has called Trump's threat this month to destroy Iranian civilization unacceptable and has previously refused to join the US president's so-called “Peace Council” initiative on Gaza.

Pope Leo also called for “deep reflection” on how migrants are treated in the US as Trump pursued a tough immigration policy.
