Yenisei residents were left without money after buying snowmobiles on a phishing site

12 April 16:50

Residents of the Yenisei Municipal District lost large sums of money after making purchases on a phishing site. This was reported to the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the region.

One of the victims found a website selling equipment on the Internet, chose a snowmobile and contacted the “manager.” During the correspondence, the parties agreed on the terms of the transaction, after which the woman was sent a sales contract. She transferred 109 thousand rubles, but after receiving the money the “seller” stopped communicating.

A similar incident occurred with another buyer. On the same website, he ordered several snowmobiles worth more than 1.5 million rubles, but was left without money and without equipment.

On both facts, criminal cases have now been initiated under the article “Fraud.”

Police warn: to avoid becoming a victim of deception, check the information about the seller, pay attention to his rating, reviews, as well as digital badges that indicate completed checks.

To ensure that the joy of online shopping is not overshadowed by receiving a low-quality product or losing money, we remind you of some signs of potentially dangerous online stores:

  • a domain name that usually differs from the original by one letter;
  • the design and content of the site practically replicate the real one;
  • contacts on the website differ from the real contacts of the company;
  • the site was registered recently (you can check the lifespan of the resource in a special service).

Don't forget to check your browser's address bar. Sometimes you can end up on a phishing site when moving from one page of a well-known portal to another.

Use secure sites. The address of such a resource must begin with https://, and there must be an icon in the form of a closed lock to the left of the address bar. If the padlock is red or crossed out, it is better to close the page immediately.
