Typically, the orchid in the summer actively increases the leaves, in the fall lays a peduncle, and in winter or spring pleases with beautiful flowering. In order to stimulate repeated flowering after the first buds are tied, it is important to correctly cut the peduncle – this is a key step to a new wave of flowering.
A garden designer and blogger ish is shared by simple tips that will help even beginner flower growers achieve the second flowering of the orchid. According to him, this is much easier than it might seem.
Two options for pruning the peduncle:
1. Pruning just above the node (eye) – If you want to give a chance to the plant to release a side branch with new colors. Find the second or third node below the dried inflorescence and make a slice about 1-2 cm above it. Under favorable conditions, a new flowering escape may appear from here.
2. Full removal of the peduncle – If growth is not observed for several weeks, it is better to cut off the stem at the very base. In this case, the orchid will direct the forces to the formation of a new peduncle, which will appear later.
Correct care is the key to success:
1. Lighting: The orchids have photophilous roots, so it is better to place the pot on the eastern or western window, where there will be bright, but multiple light.
2. Checking roots: Healthy roots after watering become saturated green. If they are gray, dry or transparent – they need to be carefully removed to prevent rot.
3. Watering: Moderate – about once every 10-14 days. Between the irrigation, the substrate should dry.
4. Water for watering: It is better to use defended, boiled or rain water. Chlorine and excess minerals in the water from the crane can harm the plant.
5. Transplant: In the first year after the purchase, it is not necessary to transplant the orchid – high -quality bark retains nutrients and the structure for a long time.
