“Hungary's peace and security may depend on one vote today. If we miss it, we face the threat of war. If we miss it, the financial security of Hungarian families will be at risk”Viktor Orbán urged people to vote on his Facebook page.

The Prime Minister said that this decision “it can't be canceled tomorrow”, “therefore no patriot can stay at home today.”

Updated turnout figures from Hungary's electoral authority show that 66% of voters had cast their vote by 3pm local time (2pm BST).

This suggests that the election could break the country's attendance record compared to similar figures recorded at the same time in previous polls, the BBC writes.

Voting started at 06:00 local time (05:00 BST) and will continue until 19:00 local time (18:00 BST).

According to the electoral sociologist Andrea Szabó, 15:00 is a key moment, being a true indicator.

“15:00 is a key moment. A real indicator, from which we can already draw conclusions about the final results. Obviously, not about the voting figures that we actually see on the NVI website after 20:00, but about how the mobilization looks in certain regions and localities of the country”electoral sociologist Andrea Szabó wrote on Facebook. She stated that the highest ever attendance at 3pm was in 2018, when it reached 53.64%.
