“A gradual reform is needed by 2035. It is 10 years, any system can be reformed in 10 years. It will not be able to otherwise, because I tell you that any decision taken tomorrow, overnight, would cut the systems (defense, public order, etc. – no). In vain we pressed to buy rockets, tanks, airplanes, because we need human resor, to use them”, Said the Minister of Defense, at Digi24.
“I believe that if we have a clear perspective, standing constitutionally, and the (European) Commission will understand“He added, in the context in which the European Commission requires that this reform will be made much faster.
Ionuț Moșteanu said that any decision related to the pensions of the military will be made after discussions with their beneficiaries.
“When we talk about military pensions, we also talk about those in May and force structures – SRI, SIE, SPP, STS – all must be viewed together. At the moment it is important to make sure that people have a very clear perspective on what follows”, Said Mosteanu.
The Minister of National Defense also claimed that there are, in the Romanian force system, thousands of employees who meet the retirement conditions.
“At the moment, we have an army that works. Any change will have to be made with them at the table, because if thousands of people come out, there will be major imbalances“Said Mosteanu, who added that the exact figure”It's not public”.
The minister also said that in the military system, the average pension is around 5,000 lei.
“There are a large number of experienced people, who have worked on NATO, international missions, who could go out tomorrow. At the moment, there are very good retirement conditions, created by politicians“Said the Minister of Defense, who added:”I am practically working in the MApN, with people who have practically the retirement decision in my pocket and I choose to continue to work. If more would leave, they would produce a hole in the system and we would need many years to fill it. Hard to say how many years, but many”.
