“Winter phenomena during this week”

The director of the National Meteorological Administration, Elena Mateescu, explained on Tuesday, on Digi24, that the sudden change in weather is caused by the interaction between two air masses with very different thermal properties.

“The thermal contact of two air masses with very different thermal characteristics generates extreme weather situations. A cyclone formed in the Mediterranean has advanced in the area of Europe, including in the south-southeast area where Romania is also located, and upon contact with a colder air mass from northern latitudes will cause winter phenomena throughout this week,” said Elena Mateescu.

The cooling of the weather will continue in the coming days, including in Bucharest, where the temperatures will drop from one day to the next, the head of the ANM also said.
