Roma transfer target Mason Greenwood (24, right wing) has officially agreed personal terms with Fenerbahçe presidential candidate Hakan Safi, giving a clear signal that he is ready to join the Turkish giants.
The Marseille winger is up for sale this summer as the club face serious financial difficulties and need to raise funds by the end of June.
Mason Greenwood has turned down Roma and is going to Fenerbahce
Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini has made no secret of his interest in the former Manchester United player, who would fit perfectly into his 3-4-3 formation.
However, the €50 million asking price is too high and Fenerbahçe appear ready to outbid Roma in terms of both the transfer fee and personal terms for the player.
Greenwood has agreed personal terms with Hakan Safi, who personally confirmed the news during a press conference, announcing that a four-year deal had been agreed. Later, the player himself followed Safi on Instagram. This move suggests that Rome will have to look elsewhere for reinforcements.
Corriere dello Sport notes that Gasperini tried to talk directly with the footballer to convince him of Roma's project. However, the newspaper points out that the Italian club's initial offer was 40 million euros, including bonuses, which is a far cry from the 50 million requested.
The reason for the high price is that Marseille owe Manchester United half of that amount as part of the deal to buy the player.
Greenwood comes after a very good season at Marseille. He played 45 games, during which he scored 26 goals and provided 11 assists. He has a fee of 50 million euros, according to transfermarkt.
