Polish soldiers evacuated from Iraq. Ministry of National Defense on “deepened cooperation” with Jordan

Deputy Prime Minister and head of the Ministry of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz met on Tuesday with King Abdullah II of Jordan. We are starting deeper cooperation between the arms industries of our countries. Polish companies are ready to come to Jordan, especially those producing drone and anti-drone systems, he said.

On Tuesday, the head of the Ministry of National Defense paid a visit to Jordan, where before Easter he visited Polish soldiers staying there, formally part of the Polish Military Contingent Iraq. A large part of this contingent has been evacuated from Iraq in recent days due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and attacks by Iran.

During the visit, the head of the Ministry of National Defense also met King Abdullah II of Jordan; Kosiniak-Kamysz informed about the meeting with the monarch in an entry on X. “Important meeting with King Abdullah II of Jordan. We talked about our military cooperation and the presence of Polish soldiers in Jordan” – he said.
“We are starting deeper cooperation between the arms industries of our countries. Polish companies are ready to come to Jordan, especially those producing drone and anti-drone systems,” declared Kosiniak-Kamysz. He added that during the conversation the current international contacts of our countries and the situation in the Middle East and Ukraine were also discussed.
Soldiers evacuated from Iraq continue their mission
Jordan is one of Poland's closer partners in the Middle East, with which Poland cooperates, among others. in the military field. Near Amman there is, among others: a modern KASOTC special forces training center, where commandos from many countries exercise and train, including: Polish Military Unit GROM.
The Polish Military Contingent is stationed in Lebanon in the Middle East as part of the UN UNIFIL mission. The second Polish Military Contingent in this region is PMC Iraq as part of the Global Coalition Forces against the Islamic State. The soldiers of this PMC are primarily involved in training the Iraqi Security Forces. PMC Iraq soldiers can also operate in Jordan, Qatar and Kuwait.
On March 20, due to the tense security situation in the region, soldiers of the Polish Military Contingent in Iraq were evacuated. Most of them returned to Poland, but several dozen Polish soldiers were relocated to Jordan to continue their mission there as part of the contingent.
On February 28, Israel and the United States launched attacks on Iran. Tehran began to respond with retaliatory attacks – using ballistic missiles and drones – on Israel and several Persian Gulf countries, hitting American bases and civilian facilities located there, especially airports and energy infrastructure.
