The solution found by the Government for thousands of employees from Liberty Galati, Liberty Tubular, Romaero and Damen Mangalia to receive their outstanding salaries

Almost 4,500 employees from Liberty Galati, Liberty Tubular Products Galati, Romaero and Damen Shipyards Mangalia, companies close to bankruptcy, will receive their outstanding salary rights, following a decision adopted by the Government on Tuesday. “The good news is that people will receive their money before Easter,” said Ioana Dogioiu, the Government's spokeswoman.
On Tuesday, the government adopted by decision a list of economic operators of strategic interest in the field of activity of the Ministry of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism (MEDAT), which includes the following companies:
- Liberty Galatians
- Liberty Tubular Products Galati
- Romaero
- Damen Shipyards Mangalia SA
“By virtue of this Government Decision, the Guarantee Fund will be able to pay the salary rights for the employees of these commercial operators of strategic interest, two of them in preventive arrangement and two in insolvency. It is very good that people will receive their money by Easter”, declared Ioana Dogioiu, at the end of the Government meeting.
Over 257.7 million lei for around 4,500 employees
The amount of salary rights that will be paid from the Guarantee Fund is 257.7 million lei and falls within the approved budget for ANOFM for this category of expenses, as follows:
- for operators of strategic interest in preventive arrangement (Liberty Galati and Liberty Tubular Products Galati), the amount allocated is 168 million lei, for a number of 2,949 beneficiaries, for a maximum grant period of 6 months;
- for operators of strategic interest in insolvency, the amount allocated is 89.7 million lei, for a number of 1,017 beneficiaries from Damen Shipyards Mangalia SA, respectively 526 beneficiaries from Romaero, for a period of 7 months each. (The two companies previously benefited from the payment of salary claims for a period of 5 months each from the Guarantee Fund, pursuant to art. 19 paragraph (1) of Law no. 200/2006).
According to the Government, the adoption of this decision aims to strengthen the framework for identifying and supporting economic operators with an essential role in the national economy, contributing to increasing economic resilience and protecting Romania's strategic interests.
A new protest took place on Tuesday, March 31, in the yard of Damen Shipyards Mangalia, after employees did not receive their salaries for the third consecutive month, according to Digi24.
The action marks the ninth consecutive day of protests. The complaints come in the context of prolonged financial blockages and uncertainties regarding the future of the company, which has been insolvent since June 2024.
