Residents of the Krasnoyarsk Territory are hacked into MAX and malicious files are sent on their behalf

31 March 17:20

Residents of Krasnoyarsk began receiving suspicious messages in the MAX messenger on behalf of their contacts. A Newslab reader reported on one such case.

Attackers hack into other people's accounts and send files that they disguise as videos or photos. In fact, these are applications with the .apk extension. If installed, scammers can gain access to personal data, passwords and banking applications.

As a rule, scammers write suddenly, their messages are not related to the previous dialogue and are highlighted with phrases that are uncharacteristic for a person. Such mailing should encourage users to open a file that pretends to be a photo or video. Please note: safe media files have .jpg, .gif, .tiff, .png or .mp4 extensions, but not .apk.

Let us add that this type of fraud scheme is not new. Profiles in other messengers or social networks are hacked in a similar way.
