Krasnoyarsk surgeons have mastered a rare method of removing an adrenal tumor through an incision from the back

For the first time in the region, the Krasnoyarsk Regional Clinical Hospital performed operations to remove an adrenal tumor using a retroperitoneal approach. Previously, this technology was used only in the St. Petersburg clinic named after Pirogov.
The technique, developed by Professor Martin Waltz in 2008, allows surgery to be performed without entering the abdominal cavity. The surgeon makes one 3-centimeter incision on the back side. This reduces trauma, eliminates the dissection of adhesions with neighboring organs and speeds up the patient’s recovery.
The head of the department, Olesya Yeselevich, suggested introducing the technology in the region. The surgeons were trained by a professional from St. Petersburg, who learned from the author of the method.
Three successful operations have already been carried out. One of the patients had both adrenal glands, affected by a hormonally active tumor, removed at once.
Every year up to 30 people with this pathology go to the hospital. Now they have access to the least traumatic type of surgery without the need to travel outside the region.
