Sebastian Mikosz dismissed from Poczta Polska. What's behind this decision?

The Ministry of State Assets announced on the X platform that the supervisory board of Poczta Polska had dismissed Sebastian Mikosz from the position of president on Wednesday evening.
Mikosz held this position for two years. He allegedly learned about the dismissal on his way back from Wrocław, where a meeting of the company's management was taking place.
As we hear from one of our interlocutors, he received a call from the Ministry of State Assets, where the Supervisory Board of the Post Office was meeting. Our sources are not sure whether Mikosz even knew that the council had met.

Poczta Polska is the largest postal operator in Poland. It has a network of 7,600 branches, branches and postal agencies. It delivers 800 million letters and 80 million parcels annually. As part of the restructuring, it conducts a program of voluntary departures and collective layoffs – as a result, employment decreased from approx. 62.9 thousand to approx. people at the end of 2023 to just over 50 thousand. in early 2026
In a post on the X platform, MAP justified the decision to dismiss Mikosz as follows: “Efficient implementation of the Transformation Plan requires clear management decisions and effective dialogue with the owner, employees, social partners and other stakeholders.“.
A day later, on TVP Info, the Minister of State Assets, Wojciech Balczun, argued that under Mikosz's presidency, the punctuality of letter delivery by Poczta Polska had significantly deteriorated. As he said, actions to improve customer service standards in post offices were carried out too slowly.
The head of MAP also pointed out that the improvement in the company's financial results achieved by Mikosz was not the only task set before the management board. As he said, MAP expects very efficient, accelerated restructuring activities and the implementation of the declaration regarding improving the standard of customer service in post offices. “It wasn't happening with the right momentum,” he said.
Sebastian Mikosz himself admitted in an interview with the Polish Press Agency that he was surprised by the cancellation. He emphasized that when he joined the company two years ago, Poczta was in a “dramatic financial situation”, currently it is in the black and its liquidity situation is “at least stabilized”.
He recalled that when he became the president of Poczta Polska, he found the company in a “dramatic financial situation with a loss of over PLN 700 million and lack of financial liquidity.” — After two years, Poczta Polska and all companies from the group will be in profit, and the liquidity situation is at least stabilized. This is the result of the consistent work of the entire team and the implementation of changes that allowed the organization to enter the path of stable growth, he emphasized.
Mikosz's resignation was surprising on many levels
Sebastian Mikosz's resignation raises surprise, among others. due to the fact that he and the Minister of Assets both know each other well from Employers of Poland, and the president of Poczta, as one of our interlocutors points out, “was well rated by the market.”
Moreover, Balczun was the head of LOT's supervisory board – for three and a half years from 2012 – which appointed Mikosz as the company's president in 2013-2015. Previously, Mikosz headed LOT from 2009 to 2011.
Finally, the dismissal of the President of the Post Office was surprising because his term ended on December 31 anyway – from the beginning of this year he had been operating on the so-called a mandate that authorizes, among others, to approve the company's financial results for the previous year. It was supposed to happen within days. After this decision, the supervisory board announces a competition for the president and members of the management board. The Post Office expected that after accepting the financial results, the competition would be announced at the beginning of April and would end by the end of the month. The general meeting would elect the management board by the end of June. Our sources claim that Sebastian Mikosz intended to run for re-election.
What is the current scenario after the resignation of the company's president? According to our sources close to the government, the supervisory board should announce a competition within weeks.
As we hear, the priority is to find a candidate with business competences, experience and sensitivity to calm the mood among the staff, because “there was already a cry for help, all trade unions were on one side against the president.”
What does the future hold for Poczta Polska? – The post office requires deep restructuring, also mental – emphasizes one of our interlocutors.
The dismissed president was on the warpath with trade unions
The terrible relations with trade unions were one of the reasons for Mikosz's dismissal. Unions, including those close to the ruling Left OPZZ, repeatedly intervened in the case of the president of the Post Office in the Ministry of Labor and even in the Prime Minister's office.
Our sources close to the government say there is a “complete lack of dialogue, rather a confrontational attitude.” Meanwhile – we hear – “The post office is 50 thousand. employees, total unionization, you cannot ignore this when holding such a position“.
This opinion is confirmed by one of the representatives of nationwide trade unions: “President Mikosz was very difficult, lacking the ability to dialogue, absolutely convinced of his own rights, the unions assessed cooperation with him very negatively.”

In turn, a trade unionist in the company who wishes to remain anonymous says: – We wanted to live in harmony with the president, but the president did not want to live in harmony with us, he did not want to meet with us, the last time we talked to him was maybe a year ago. We met the president at parliamentary committee meetings.
Our sources close to the company indicate that Mikosz has delegated the vice-president and head of human resources to contacts with the unions.
— The president violated employee rights, did not respect the orders of the National Labor Inspectorate (PIP) regarding the payment of performance-related bonuses for March 2025 or ending unequal treatment of employees in employment in terms of access to benefits resulting from the terminated Collective Labor Agreement, i.e. jubilee awards – tells us Robert Czyż, chairman of the Trade Union of Postal Workers.
He adds: – In some aspects we can even talk about a “split personality.” Despite clear interpretations of the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy, National Labor Inspectorate, and labor court judgments, the company still believes that the introduction of new remuneration rules does not require the application of the Act on collective layoffs – and dismissed CEO Mikosz argued on his LinkedIn profile in February that he had to apply the collective redundancy procedure.
It did not meet MAP's expectations
What other reasons were there for dismissing the president of the Post Office?
— It was canceled due to conflict with everyone – says one of our interlocutors. According to another source, he allegedly came into conflict with the rest of the company's management board.
In addition, however, Mikosz joined Poczta Polska on the recommendation of Poland 2050, not KO, so he had no political support.
However, his dismissal was due to the fact that the president did not meet the owner's expectations.
According to our sources, last summer the head of the Post Office presented his vision to MAP, which was assessed positively, “however, since then not much has actually happened.” The speech included: on modernizing the archaic IT system in the company.
Balczun's statement in TVP Info shows that the dismissed president did not meet expectations in terms of openness to the use of “market opportunities in cooperation with owners of parcels that could be sent and delivered by Poczta”.
Another argument against the president was that in February the Ministry of Assets received information about the mass dismissal of directors at the Post Office “because they do not deliver.” — This raised doubts about competence and intentions. Such decisions are not made en masse once a year, but in real time, says one of our interlocutors.
Mikosz was also said to have suffered, for example, the delay in approving the postage stamp issue plan for 2026. The Minister of Assets must establish an annual postage stamp issue plan for a given year by the end of March. Balczun made a decision on this matter on March 26, a day after the dismissal of the president of the Post Office.
Sebastian Mikosz was certainly not helped by the fiasco of the takeover of Orlen Paczka by Poczta, which was foreseen in the company's transformation plan from 2024. This decision was announced in February this year. The president of Poczta Polska explained to PAP that the most important reason was that the company was unable to finance such a significant investment. He added that in accordance with the transformation plan, Poczta will continue to work on finding “the best formula for presence on the courier services market.”
Is Mikosz's resignation a show of power by the minister?
Many of our interlocutors, however, point to another clue. By making this decision, the Minister of Assets wanted to show his strength.

The dismissal of the prominent president of PZU, Andrzej Klesyk, immediately after Balczun took over as head of MAP was perceived similarly.
– This resignation may be a signal to other management boards of State Treasury companies – we hear. Behind the scenes, there is a lot of talk about tensions between company presidents, especially those whose terms are expiring, and Balczun.
