Reduction of taxes on fuel. The government is introducing lower VAT and excise duty

Excise tax down for two weeks
The second regulation provides for a reduction in excise duty on selected motor fuels:
- from March 30 to April 15, 2026
This is a much shorter period than in the case of VAT, which suggests that the government treats the excise tax reduction as an intervention tool, not a long-term support instrument.

What do the discounts mean?
The aim of the package is to reduce price pressure at gas stations. The changes come at a time when global markets are recording dynamic increases in the prices of crude oil and finished fuels, and wholesale prices in Poland are growing at the fastest rate in over two years.
The published legal acts contain detailed rates and a catalog of fuels subject to discounts. The government hopes that the changes will translate into quick reductions in retail prices, although their scale will also depend on the situation on international markets and the pricing policy of fuel companies.
