New wholesale prices of Orlen. Imports and geopolitics dictate fuel rates

This is another correction this week. From Tuesday to Thursday, Orlen reduced the prices of both key fuels three times. In the case of diesel, these were decreases by PLN 87, PLN 118 and PLN 304 per cubic meter, respectively. Eurosuper 95 petrol became cheaper on these days by PLN 45, PLN 30 and PLN 32 per cubic meter.

Why do prices change so dynamically?
The company explains that over 30 percent fuels available on the Polish market are imported, which means that their prices are strongly dependent on quotations on world stock exchanges.
Orlen emphasizes that wholesale prices in Poland remain closely correlated with European fuel markets, and their level contract terms and logistics costs also influence.
Retail prices are the result of sales policy, wholesale level and competition on local markets.

The geopolitical situation is to blame for everything
The company points out that market mechanisms, including fuel imports, are key to ensuring continuity of supplies. It reminds that their violation in the fall of 2023 resulted in a temporary lack of fuel at many stations in the country.
Price levels are also influenced by the geopolitical situation, especially events in the Middle East. According to Orlen, in recent weeks the prices of finished fuels on the ARA (Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp) market have increased significantly – from February 27 to March 25, the EU95 petrol indices increased by 42.4%, and diesel by 67.7%. The company emphasizes that such changes directly translate into price levels also on the Polish wholesale market.
