The eggs will shine and your hands will remain clean. Two ways to make dyes without chemicals

You can prepare incredibly beautiful Easter basket dyes without using chemical dyes – you only need hibiscus tea and red cabbage. Ukrainian culinary YouTube channel Ivan Yanyuk spoke about how to make marble eggs and sky-colored eggs.

“When you go to bless your Easter basket, people will look and won’t understand how you got such beautiful eggs,” Yanyuk assured.

According to the blogger, these two methods allow you to get unique patterns without dirty hands that cannot be repeated when dyed with artificial dyes

Marble Eggs (Hibiscus and Onion Peels)

This method creates the effect of a “space” or marble pattern.

You will need:

  • white eggs (raw);
  • onion peels, chopped with scissors or hands;
  • white paper cut into small triangles;
  • hibiscus tea;
  • bandage cut into 30 cm strips and elastic bands for money.
  • 1 tbsp. l. salt.

Instructions

  1. Soak a raw egg in water to help the decor stick to it better.
  2. Roll the egg in a mixture of chopped onion skins and paper.
  3. Place the egg on the crossed strips of bandage, wrap tightly and secure with an elastic band.
  4. Pour hibiscus into a saucepan, add eggs and cover with cold water.
  5. Add salt. Cook for nine minutes after boiling.
  6. Leave the eggs in the solution until they cool completely.
  7. Remove the bandage, rinse the eggs with water to remove any remaining paper and gently blot with a napkin.

Sky Blue Eggs (Red Cabbage)

You will need:

  • white raw eggs;
  • red (purple) cabbage, diced;
  • vinegar 9% (2 tbsp.) – for fixing and brightening the color;
  • 1 tbsp. l. salt.

Instructions

  1. Place the eggs in a saucepan and top with chopped cabbage.
  2. Fill with water, add salt and vinegar.
  3. Cook on maximum heat for 15 minutes.
  4. The eggs may appear white at first – just give them time by leaving them in the cabbage broth for three hours.
  5. Remove and carefully blot with a napkin.

Tips for perfect results

  1. Don't rub the eggs. After dyeing with natural dyes, the pigment should “set”. Just pat them lightly with a paper towel.
  2. When the paints are completely dry, you can lightly wipe them with cotton wool dipped in vegetable oil, and they will shine beautifully, as if varnished.
