
According to him, fierce fighting broke out along the entire front. In total, over these four days, the Russians carried out 619 assaults.
The Russian army attacked most intensively in the Pokrovsky (163 times) and Aleksandrovsky (96) directions.
According to Syrsky, the situation in the Konstantinovsky direction remained no less tense, where Russian troops carried out 84 assaults. More than one and a half hundred military clashes took place in the Ocheretinsky, Limansky and Kupyansky directions.
Syrsky emphasized that the command of the Russian troops threw tens of thousands of military personnel into “meat assaults”, but was unable to complete the assigned tasks. According to him, during four days of intense assault operations, the Russian army lost more than 6,090 servicemen killed and wounded.
“Thanks to the professional, coordinated actions of Ukrainian soldiers in several directions, the enemy’s offensive actions were stopped,” Syrsky assured.
He also said that high-intensity fighting continues in some areas of the front, but the Russians are forced to move on to regrouping their forces.
The occupiers, according to the commander-in-chief, are trying to recruit new units and are preparing to continue attacks, banking on worsening weather conditions. In their opinion, it should reduce the effectiveness of Ukrainian aerial reconnaissance and interfere with the operation of unmanned systems and artillery.
Syrsky said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces were ready for an increase in the intensity of attacks, so they made the necessary management decisions. The troops have received reinforcements and are supplied with military equipment, weapons and ammunition.
In certain areas, Ukrainian soldiers have seized the initiative and are carrying out their active operations, using active defense tactics, Syrsky added.
Context
On March 17, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense announced that the Ukrainian defense forces eliminated the largest number of Russian occupiers in one day this year – 1,710 military personnel killed and wounded. According to the department, the Russians tried to take advantage of the fog and launched offensives on several sectors of the front, but were defeated.
On March 20, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the Russian occupiers had increased pressure on several sectors of the front at once.
The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported in a March 21 report that Russian troops have likely entered the active phase of the projected spring-summer offensive of 2026.
On March 22, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky spoke about the attempts of the Russian army to advance from the border in the Kharkov and Sumy regions.
