Kamikaze drones near Romania. F-16 planes lifted and activity suspended in Giurgiulesti Customs

Local residents of the north of Tulcea county received, for the second day in a row, an RO-Alert message warning them about the possible fall of objects from the airspace. The alert was triggered in the context of a new attack carried out by Russian forces with kamikaze-type drones on some civilian and infrastructure targets in Ukraine, located in close proximity to the river border with Romania.

The National Military Command Center notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) as soon as the radars detected groups of drones heading towards Ukrainian ports on the Danube.
Two F-16 aircraft of the Romanian Air Force took off urgently from the 86th Air Base to monitor the situation near the national airspace.
ISU Delta representatives announced that by 20:00 no calls had been made to the single emergency number 112, suggesting that the incident had not resulted in any casualties or damage.
The authorities also sent recommendations for travelers from the border area: the Giurgiulești-Reni Border Crossing Point (on the border between Romania, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, near the city of Galati) has temporarily suspended its activity, as a result of the triggering of the alarm on the Ukrainian side. Participants in cross-border traffic are advised to postpone travel in this area until the situation returns to normal. The representatives of the institutions promise to provide additional information as soon as the situation changes.

The Inspectorate for Emergency Situations “Delta” Tulcea specified that the Sunday alert was triggered after the General Staff of the Air Force detected a group of targets near the Romanian airspace, which raised questions regarding the safety of flights and residents of the region. Following this signal, the authorities issued the RO-Alert warning, recommending the population to be cautious and avoid open areas.
The general context shows that the Romanian-Ukrainian border area has been more tense in recent months. According to the data provided by the Ministry of National Defense, since the beginning of this year, there have been more than 15 incidents near the border, in at least ten of which it was necessary to raise Air Police Service aircraft for monitoring and management. These situations led the authorities to maintain a constant surveillance of the airspace and issue preventive warnings to the population.
ISU Delta representatives emphasized that RO-Alert messages are essential tools for public safety and recommend citizens to treat them seriously, following the instructions sent.
