The Confederation proposes the liquidation of TVP Info. “We would save a lot of money and spare Poles the nonsense they have to listen to”

Confederation politicians want to liquidate TVP Info. In their opinion, each successive government turns public television into its “propaganda tube.” The TVP Press Office replies that accusing public television of lack of pluralism by a party whose politician recently expressed opinions in one of its programs “comments itself.”

During Monday's press conference in front of the TVP building at ul. Woronicza in Warsaw, Confederation MP Witold Tumanowicz said that TVP Info, regardless of who is currently in power, is becoming a “government propaganda mouthpiece”. The “propaganda” accused of TVP Info is based – as the Confederation MP said – on manipulations which, in his opinion, are “at a truly embarrassing level.”

He recalled that since June last year, a bill establishing the Confederation has been in the Sejm liquidation of TVP Info and abolition of the radio and television license feewhich is “frozen”. Tumanowicz appealed for the mentioned bill to be processed. – TVP Info should simply be liquidated. We would save a lot of money and spare Poles the nonsense they have to listen to, he emphasized.

In the opinion of the Secretary of the Confederation, Krzysztof Rzoniec, TVP is watched less and less by Poles and does not fulfill its public mission.

– There is no reason for Polish taxpayers and hard-working Poles to contribute to ensuring that we have a government propaganda mouthpiece whose propaganda exceeds that of Jacek Kurski (president of the TVP management board in the PiS government – PAP) – he said.

Confederation spokesman Wojciech Machulski recalled that he was a guest on Friday's TVP Info program “A lie will not pass.” – It was supposed to be a new fact-checking show on public television. It turned out to be exactly the opposite, that it was purely propaganda material, said Machulski. He added that although the experts on the show were supposed to be “reviewing facts,” they were actually “reviewing opinions” and “cramming their radical views down our throats.”

– Enough of this – enough of these billions of Polish taxpayers de facto wasted on maintaining the government's propaganda mouthpiece. (…) Nobody falls for this anymore. I am convinced that this government propaganda is an “own goal” for Donald Tusk's government, emphasized the Confederation spokesman.

PAP asked TVP Info to respond to the allegations made against it by the Confederation. In response, the TVP press office noted that “the fact that TVP Info is accused of lack of pluralism by a politician (Wojciech Machulski – PAP), who expressed his opinions in the live program, is commenting on himself.”

“The co-authors of the 'A Lie Will Not Pass' program received the prestigious Grand Press Veritas journalism award in December 2025 'for reliable verification of the statements of politicians and pseudo-experts and unmasking false narratives',” it was noted in the response sent to PAP.

It was also pointed out that TVP Info's viewership was not decreasing, as suggested by Konfederacja. “It is exactly the opposite – the channel's viewership is constantly growing, and this is confirmed by Nielsen data,” it was noted in the response sent to PAP. “According to the data quoted, in the period between February 2026 and February 2025, the TVP Info channel grew by almost 9% year-on-year, and in February 2026 TVP Info had 2.08% market share compared to 1.91% in February 2025.” – added.

The TVP press office emphasized that “at the turn of February and March 2026, the TVP Info channel recorded the best daily results since September 2025.” Moreover – as PAP was informed – for months the TVP Info channel has been recording a “gigantic increase in popularity in streaming – on the TVP VOD service”, where it is one of the most frequently watched TVP channels.

The idea of ​​liquidating TVP Info has already appeared in the past. In December 2022, a citizens' bill on the liquidation of TVP Info and the abolition of license fees was submitted to the Sejm. It was supported, among others, by: by politicians of the then Civic Platform; The mayor of Warsaw, a politician from the then PO, Rafał Trzaskowski, was authorized to present the project. This proposal was rejected by the Sejm in March 2023.

The liquidation of TVP Info was also one of Trzaskowski's announcements when he ran for president of the Republic of Poland in 2020. Trzaskowski then claimed that this 24-hour public television channel was completely “subordinated to PiS.” (PAP)
