Cuba releases a batch of political prisoners under the auspices of the Vatican

The first release of some detainees took place on Friday in Cuba, one day after the announcement made by the government regarding the anticipated release of 51 people under the auspices of the Vatican, announced the human rights defense organization, Justicia11J, according to AFP, taken over by Agerpres.

The organization indicates on the X platform that it was able to “verify the release” of two people who had participated in anti-government demonstrations on July 11, 2021. They had been sentenced to 13 and 14 years in prison, respectively.

The demonstrator sentenced to 14 years in prison and released was on his way to his home in Havana, AFP confirmed.

The communist regime in Havana is under increasing pressure from the United States, which has imposed an embargo on oil supplies from Venezuela, driving up food and transport prices and causing a severe fuel crisis and frequent power outages.
