“Sometimes you see two young children arguing like crazy. They hate each other and quarrel in one park, and you try to separate them. They do not want to be separated, sometimes it is better to let them fight for a while and then to separate them,” said Donald Trump.

The American leader continued: “I made this analogy to Putin yesterday, I said, Mr. President, maybe you will have to continue to fight and suffer a lot, because both sides suffer before breaking them down before they can be separated.”

Friedrich Merz said Donald Trump is the “key person” to stop the Ukraine war, “putting pressure on Russia.”

“We both agree with this war and how terrible continues and we both look for ways to stop them very soon. And I told the president … He is the key person in the world who can really do that now, putting pressure on Russia,” said the German Chancellor.

Merz reiterated Germany's firm commitment to Ukraine, noting that the terrible images on the battlefield are caused by the “Russian weapons against Ukraine.”

“Ukraine concerns only military targets, not civilians, not energy infrastructure. So this is the difference and this is why we try to do more about Russia,” the German leader said.

Friedrich Merz offered the American president a framed copy of his grandfather's birth certificate, Frederick Trump, born in Germany in 1869.
