According to Ivanov, if a person notices that fasting causes deterioration in health, interferes with work, or provokes breakdowns and irritability, this is no longer a virtue, but self-torture. He emphasized that the Lord does not require excessive feats from believers that they cannot do.

At the same time, the priest warned against making independent decisions: you cannot loosen restrictions simply by succumbing to despondency or weakness of will. You must definitely contact a priest, tell about your condition and receive a blessing.

Ivanov reminded that fasting is not a competition where it is important to hold out the longest. This is the time when a person learns to manage his desires, but not at the expense of common sense. If the restrictions have become unbearable, they can be eased, but this must be done with prayer and the intention of completing the fast with acts of mercy.
