If you want something warm, crispy and comforting, but without the fuss and long wait, these croutons are the perfect solution. They are easier to prepare than toast, smell delicious, and disappear from the table faster than you can pour tea.
Ingredients:
White or gray bread – 6-8 slices
Butter – 50 g
Garlic – 2-3 cloves
Dried dill or parsley – 1 teaspoon
Paprika or ground red pepper – a pinch
Salt – to taste
How to cook:
- Cut the bread into cubes or triangles.
- Melt the butter in a frying pan or in the microwave, add chopped garlic and heat slightly.
- Add salt, paprika and dried herbs to the oil and stir.
- Add the bread pieces and gently toss to coat each piece with the garlic butter.
- Place the croutons in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Bake at 180°C for 10–12 minutes until golden brown and rich in garlic aroma.
- Let cool slightly; they will become extra crispy.
Bon appetit!
Question and answer:
Is it possible to make croutons without an oven?
Yes, they can be cooked in a frying pan. Simply fry the bread in garlic oil over medium heat, turning, until the pieces are golden and crisp.
What kind of bread is best to use?
Slightly stale white or gray bread is ideal. It doesn't get soggy in the oil and gives the best crunch.
