Oana Țoiu, called today in Parliament to give explanations regarding Victor Ponta's accusations about the repatriation of his daughter

The foreign policy committee of the Chamber of Deputies summoned Oana Țoiu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, to hearings, the subject of the hearing being the way in which the repatriation of Romanians from the Middle East was carried out, given that the former prime minister Victor Ponta accused Țoiu of having forbidden the consul from Dubai to accept his daughter on one of the planes that carried out the repatriation.

The meeting of the Foreign Policy Commission is scheduled for Wednesday, from 12:00.

Viorel Riceard Badea, the Romanian consul in Dubai, was also called to the hearing. For the moment, it is not clear whether he will participate, according to HotNews' political sources, given that the repatriation process from the United Arab Emirates continues these days.

Ponta's accusations against the MAE

Former Prime Minister Victor Ponta accused the Minister of Foreign Affairs Oana Țoiu of being personally involved so that his daughter would not be on the list of Romanians brought to the country with the flights organized by the Romanian state.

“Yes, Mrs. Țoiu took my minor daughter, Irina, off the plane that was bringing Romanians. Irina was not on vacation, but at New York University in Abu Dhabi. She personally called the consul in Dubai not to let her get on the plane to Bucharest, even though she is a minor and is alone there. She screamed at the consul that the girl is a “vulnerability” and that he forbids her to get on the plane,” Ponta said on March 5, in a statement to the Daily.

This explanation was reinforced by his ex-wife, Daciana Sârbu.

Daciana Sârbu told Antena3 that Irina was taken off the bus that was taking the children to the airport and that she was told that she was “a vulnerability” because of the name she bears.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andrei Țărnea, stated on Friday, March 6, in a press conference, that the daughter of Victor Ponta and Daciana Sârbu did not appear in the consular records nor in the system managed by the MAE for crisis situations.

“The lady you are talking about does not appear in the consular records, so she does not appear in the system managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the management of these crisis situations. The name of the lady or the citizen you refer to does not appear in the system and therefore, not appearing in the system, she could not be on any list”, stated the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, quoted by stirileprotv.ro.

Ponta's daughter arrived in Romania with a line race

The daughter of former prime minister Victor Ponta arrived in Romania on Friday. The information was confirmed by a post on Facebook by Daciana Sârbu, who said that she “held her child in her arms”, after the family publicly accused the authorities a day ago of blocking the repatriation of the teenager.

According to the Gândul publication, Victor Ponta's daughter arrived in the country on a FlyDubai flight that landed at Otopeni airport around 8.45am.

The hearing, requested by Sorin Grindeanu

PSD President Sorin Grindeanu asked Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan on Monday to send the Control Body to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to check the situation related to the repatriation of Victor Ponta's daughter from Dubai.

At the same time, Grindeanu announced that he will ask the party parliamentarians from the foreign policy commissions to summon the minister Oana Ţoiu and the Romanian consul in Dubai to hearings.

He added that “it is regrettable the situation in which a child was put, no matter what that child is called”.
