The court set the date of December 19 to rule on the request for the administration of evidence in the case of Călin Georgescu in which he is accused of an attempted coup d'état. The next term of the trial in which the former presidential candidate contests the legality of the indictment was set for January 21.
The former presidential candidate, Călin Georgescu, had his decision on the appeal filed regarding the legality of the indictment postponed until December 19.
“On the requests for evidence, the ruling is set for 12/19/2025, and the preliminary chamber is scheduled for 01/21/2026, 11:30 a.m.,” the court's decision states.
As for the leader of the mercenaries, Horațiu Potra, and his son, Dorian, the court decided to remain in preventive detention.
“It maintains the measure of preventive arrest taken against the defendants Potra Horațiu, Potra Dorian and Potra Alexandru-Cosmin until a new verification, but no later than 30 days. It rejects the requests made by the defendants regarding the replacement of the measure of preventive arrest with a lighter preventive measure. With the right of appeal within 48 hours from the communication”, reasons the court.
Former presidential candidate Călin Georgescu and Horațiu Potra, extradited from Dubai, were summoned before the judges of the Bucharest Court of Appeal in the case in which they are accused of serious crimes for destabilizing Romania.
Potra was brought from prison, while Georgescu, who is under judicial control, came flanked by bodyguards. Călin Georgescu was greeted by hundreds of supporters shouting “Călin Georgescu is president” and “Horatiu Potra, innocent”.

Georgescu was sent to court, on September 16, for six crimes, the most serious being complicity in the attempt to commit actions against the constitutional order.
He is accused by the prosecutors of having, together with Horațiu Potra, set up a plan according to which the latter, together with people from his circle, were to organize on December 8, 2024, in Bucharest, in the context of some protest demonstrations, “violent actions of a subversive nature, with the role of diverting the peaceful nature of the protest actions into demonstrations characterized by violence”.
Georgescu challenged the restrictive measures, including the ban on leaving Romania and the obligation to report to the police periodically. At the same time, Georgescu is also sent to court in another criminal case, the one for legionary propaganda.
The former presidential candidate is trying, through the defenses formulated, to send the file back to the Prosecutor's Office.
