Pavel Badea Urges Craiova to Perform in Upcoming Europa League Match

Universitatea Craiova recently suffered a 0-1 defeat to FC Argeș, raising concerns about the team’s form as they prepare for a vital Europa League match against KuPS this Thursday. Pavel Badea, the director of CS Universitatea Craiova, emphasized the importance of the upcoming game, labeling it potentially defining for the team’s season.
Badea acknowledged that the team faced some bad luck during the match against FC Argeș but stressed that this should not be the sole explanation for their performance. He expressed dissatisfaction with three players: Adrian Rus, Tudor Băluță, and Simon Elisor, stating that their performances have not met expectations.
Badea’s Concerns Over Team’s Recent Form
“I am worried. Last year, we were a very lucky team; this season, it seems the luck has turned,” Badea noted. He lamented the missed opportunities, pointing out that with 75% possession and numerous scoring chances, the team failed to convert any into goals.
He emphasized that if the team does not secure a win on Thursday, it could signal a challenging moment for them. “Until Thursday, we’ll hold our judgment, but a loss could indicate a deeper issue within the team,” he said during an appearance on the “Fotbal Club” show on Digi Sport.
Criticism of Individual Performances
Badea was particularly surprised by Adrian Rus’s performance, criticizing his mistake that led to the match’s only goal. “Rus had been a key player for us last season, but he had a bad day this time. We hope he rebounds in the next match,” he remarked.
Tudor Băluță also faced criticism, with Badea noting his poor display upon substitution in the 60th minute. “He made errors that one would expect from a beginner. He is a talented player who has seen better days,” he commented, hoping for Băluță’s quick recovery in form to enhance competition in the midfield.
Simon Elisor has also been underwhelming, while Ștefan Baiaram received praise for his performance. “Elisor needs to elevate his game significantly; his recent shows have not impressed,” Badea stated, contrasting that with Baiaram’s notable contributions.
“Our opponents have studied us well. When we can’t leverage our key players, we struggle. Our next match is crucial for regaining confidence and focus,” added Badea.
Controversy Over Penalty Decision
Badea also addressed a controversial moment in the match where his team called for a penalty late in the game. “The VAR reviewed it thoroughly, and it wasn’t awarded. Many of us felt it was a penalty, but there may have been reasons for the referee’s decision. It’s football,” he explained.
Despite the recent setback, Badea remains optimistic that the team can turn things around against KuPS and fulfill its European aspirations. “We need to return to our winning ways; Thursday’s match is essential. We need to regain our confidence and focus,” he concluded.
