Dominic Fritz, on the Țoiu-Ponta scandal: “Let's end the republic of the privileged”

USR President Dominic Fritz stated, on Digi24, that the scandal that broke out in connection with the repatriation of Victor Ponta's daughter from Dubai is related to the dissatisfaction caused by the activity of USR ministers who aim to put an end to the “republic of the privileged”.

Dominic Fritz defended Oana Țoiu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, after the former Prime Minister Victor Ponta accused her of giving orders not to get on the plane with which some of the Romanians stuck in the Middle East were to be repatriated.

“We know the mentality of the specials”

“Every Romanian knows the situation in which you can no longer get a place for your child in kindergarten because he put I don't know what special in front, because he made a phone call. Every Romanian knows the situation in which he is not treated at the hospital or does not receive a particular medicine because some special was put in front. We know this mentality of the specials”, said the USR president.

Fritz said that Țoiu only asked that MFA employees in the area respect the rules related to the repatriation of citizens, without facilities for the privileged.

“It seems to me not only a necessary attitude, it's a moral attitude and it's an attitude that Romanians expect. Let's finish with this republic of the privileged. And the fact that now this narrative is turning against Oana Țoiu just because she allowed herself to insist that there are no specials, this once again shows a lot, shows a lot about how much USR bothers”, the USR leader also said.

Ponta's accusations against the MAE

Former Prime Minister Victor Ponta accused the Minister of Foreign Affairs Oana Țoiu of being personally involved so that his daughter would not be on the list of Romanians brought to the country with the flights organized by the Romanian state.

“Yes, Mrs. Țoiu took my minor daughter, Irina, off the plane that was bringing Romanians. Irina was not on vacation, but at New York University in Abu Dhabi. She personally called the consul in Dubai not to let her get on the plane to Bucharest, even though she is a minor and is alone there. She screamed at the consul that the girl is a “vulnerability” and that he forbids her to get on the plane,” Ponta said on March 5, in a statement to the Daily.

This explanation was reinforced by his ex-wife, Daciana Sârbu.

Daciana Sârbu told Antena3 that Irina was taken off the bus that was taking the children to the airport and that she was told that she was “a vulnerability” because of the name she bears.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andrei Țărnea, stated on Friday, March 6, in a press conference, that the daughter of Victor Ponta and Daciana Sârbu did not appear in the consular records nor in the system managed by the MAE for crisis situations.

Ponta's daughter arrived in Romania with a line race

The daughter of former prime minister Victor Ponta arrived in Romania on Friday. The information was confirmed by a post on Facebook by Daciana Sârbu, who said that she “held her child in her arms”, after the family publicly accused the authorities a day ago of blocking the repatriation of the teenager.

“I thank you from the bottom of my heart to all those who offered me help. Thanks to you today I held my child in my arms. Thank you for your messages of encouragement and for your good thoughts, which made me feel less alone”, wrote Daciana Sârbu.

According to the Gândul publication, Victor Ponta's daughter arrived in the country on a FlyDubai flight that landed at Otopeni airport around 8.45am.
