If the onions shoot out arrows in the garden, you can no longer expect a good harvest. The author of the Ukrainian Youtube channel “Secrets of Roslinnitstva” spoke about how to properly prepare seeded onions for planting in order to then reap a generous harvest.
How to choose high-quality onion seedlings at the market
- the bulbs must be free of stains and without the unpleasant smell of rot;
- there should be no mechanical damage on them;
- the bulbs should be dry and firm to the touch;
- The diameter of the bulbs should be from 1 to 2 cm. Larger onions often go into the arrow, so they can be used to produce greens.
How to prepare onions for planting
To prevent the onion from going into arrows, it must be dried in a warm place. Warming up is a reliable way to avoid bolting. Onions are dried for about three weeks at a temperature of +20…+24 °C. To do this, you can use a stove or put a bow on the radiator.
Properly selected and heated planting material will produce a large and healthy bulb.
