The dark scenario confirmed: the Minister of Energy admits that the fuel price can reach the threshold of 10 lei

Reminding him that on Monday he said that it was blatant lies that the price of fuel could reach 10 lei, the Minister of Energy declared that, in the context of the conflict in the Middle East, this is possible.

“We see how long this conflict lasts. Two days ago this scenario was totally improbable. Now, if the barrel of oil reaches 120-130 dollars and increases, there is this risk. It depends on how much and how the situation in the Middle East will deteriorate“, Ivan declared at Digi 24.

On Monday, after energy experts calculated that the impact of the increase in the price of a barrel of oil will also affect fuel prices in Romania, which can reach 10 lei/liter, the Minister of Energy stated that it is a cheeky little thing.

“We made sure that this international context is not used for possible speculation on the part of some economic actors, because an increase of more than 3-5 money at the pump is not justified at the moment, and those speculations that appeared in the public space with diesel or gasoline for 10 lei are blatant liesI want to disavow them completely, because at the moment there is no rational, commercial, economic argument why the price at the pump could reach these rates of 10 lei or close to 10 lei”the Minister of Economy, Bogdan Ivan, declared on Monday.

Chisăliță: The price of gasoline and diesel will exceed 9-10 lei/liter

The price of gasoline and diesel will soon exceed 9-10 lei/liter due to the conflict in the Middle East, given the increase in the price of the oil barrel and the difficulties of transportation through the Strait of Hormuz, stated the energy expert Dumitru Chisăliță, arguing with calculations that if the barrel goes up by 10-20 dollars, the effect is felt progressively, not overnight — but it rarely remains only on paper”.

The energy expert presented the approximate structure of fuel prices in Romania:

• Tax 50–55% (excise duty + VAT),

• 30–35% product cost (crude oil + refining),

• the rest: distribution and margin.

This means that an increase of 10 dollars per barrel will increase the price of fuel in Romania by 70 bani/liter, if the price of the barrel is increased by 20 dollars, the price of fuel in Romania will increase by 1 lei/liter, and if the price of the barrel is increased by 30 dollars, the price in Romania will increase at the pump by 2.5 lei/liter.

If crude stabilizes at $90–100exceeding the threshold of 9-10 lei/liter becomes realistic“, states the expert.
