The villa in Aviatorilor, which would have been prepared for Iohannis and in which 14 million lei were invested, put up for rent

The protocol building in Aviatorilor Boulevard no. 86, renovated with millions of euros from public funds and speculated to have been prepared for President Klaus Iohannis, has been leased by RA-APPS.

Imposing villa in Bulevardul Aviatorilor no. 86, located in the luxury area Primaverii in Bucharest, was leased by the Autonomous Region – State Protocol Heritage Administration (RA-APPS).
The building whose renovation cost the Romanian state approximately 14 million lei was circulated last year as the possible residence of President Klaus Iohannis, after the end of his mandate.
In the summer of this year, the updated value of the building was estimated at 14.46 million lei.
According to the data analyzed by Profit.ro, the auction for renting the villa starts from 35,000 euros per month, and the participation guarantee is double, i.e. 70,000 euros. The property, officially intended for commercial activities, includes three building bodies (C1 + C2 + C3), with a total built area of 915.54 square meters and a yard of 1,110 square meters.
The villa was transferred to the private heritage of the state
In August, the Government decided that the RA-APPS villa in Aviatorilor, which is in the process of renovation, will be transferred from the public domain to the private domain of the state, with a commercial destination, in order to rent it out.
“A government decision was adopted, unclassified, regarding the updating of the inventory value and the transfer of the building from the public domain of the state to the private domain, with the commercial destination”, declared Ioana Dogioiu, spokesperson of the Executive.
RA-APPS had already invested approximately 13.84 million lei in the rehabilitation, modernization and refunctionalization of the building in Aviatorilor, which was under its administration. The decision to turn it into a commercial space came in the context in which President Klaus Iohannis was approaching the end of his term, and information was circulating in the public space that the villa would have been intended for him.
In November 2024, the Government led by Marcel Ciolacu approved the declassification of the expenses related to this building, a decision interpreted by the opposition as a move with electoral stakes. The leader of the PNL at the time who was running for the presidential elections, Nicolae Ciucă, accused Prime Minister Ciolacu of only selecting certain data to make them public in the midst of the election campaign and demanded full transparency regarding all protocol villas under renovation, including those of members of the Government.
In the past, not all former heads of state applied for such residences. Ion Iliescu refused a protocol home, preferring his own house. Instead, Emil Constantinescu benefited from one, and Traian Băsescu recently received a new official residence, whose address was kept secret by the Bologna Government.
Although the press circulated that the villa in Aviatorilor 86 would have been prepared for Klaus Iohannis, the head of state denied that he would have requested such a home, and the authorities have not yet confirmed the existence of such a request.
